If your prom is coming up, then we’re pretty sure that you’re excited about finding the perfect dress for the occasion. And while there used to be a time when the only option a girl had was to go to a local formal shop or department store, thanks to the internet, you can have access to an even wider variety of styles.
However, before you get your parents’ credit card in order to make a purchase, we wanted to take out a moment to share with you some of the do’s and don’ts of online prom dress shopping. That way, you can be absolutely certain that you ended up with the dress of your dreams.
DO look at several websites. Even if after looking on one website, you feel like you are totally in love with a particular dress on it, fight the urge to make a rash decision. Remember that one of the best things about shopping online
is there are all kinds of styles of dresses to choose from. Our recommendation is to spend a week or so checking out different websites and then narrowing down your options to between 5-10 dresses. And then choose from those. You don’t want to make an impulsive decision, but instead take your time!
DON’T think that you have to pay full price. Once you have found the dress that you want, if you happen to look at the retail price and you’re a bit discouraged, don’t be. Another great thing about online shopping is that there are all kinds of websites that offer promo codes so that you can get what you want at a discount. One of our favorite ones is Retail Me Not. Just go to the site and put the name of the store in the search field to see what deals are available.
DO speak with an online sales associate. Any reputable company is going to have a way for you to speak with an online sales associate, whether it’s by phone or online chat. So, if you happen to have any questions about the fabric or fit of the dress, don’t hesitate to ask them. That’s what they’re there for.
DON’T assume the dress will look the same on you. If there is one huge challenge about shopping for a prom dress over the internet, it’s making the assumption that the way the dress looks on the model is the way that it will look on you. Just be mentally ready that the dress might now be what you imagined until you actually try it on. In fact, you might want to purchase the dress a size up, just to make sure that you will be able to fit into it.
DO ask about the return policy. Say that while shopping for a prom dress, you find one that you really like at Night Moves by Allure. However, before buying it, it’s important that you ask about the store’s return policy, just in case that the style or quality of dress is not what you thought it would be. If you’re really pressed for time, inquire about if they have overnight labels available so that you can ship it back in time to make another selection.
DON’T expect that you won’t have to make alterations. If you’re going to shop online, it’s a good idea to order a dress within 4-6 weeks of your prom. That will give you time to make any necessary alterations; and believe us when we say that when you’re shopping online, it’s pretty common that you will need some. Enjoy your online prom shopping!
